Once of my biggest gripes with my iPhone and other iDevices has always been the painfully slow YouTube access over WiFi. I always brushed it off as a problem with our local YouTube ISP's, or a problem with the local YouTube servers, and hoped a fix would surface soon enough. 3G however is mostly perfect.

I tried various fixes online, from changing my DNS entries, to rebooting my router etc. however none actually worked. I tested this by comparing the loading times of the exact same video which was sluggish to begin with - It's not all videos that are sluggish, but as I will later discuss, only the "HQ" i.e. HD ones - 720p and up.

I thought I would share a quick fix for those experiencing similar problems. So here it is:

The iPad 3 or "New iPad" launches locally in South Africa on 27 April 2012 - this Friday.

Core Group, official distributors of Apple products in South Africa, has revealed what the damage to your credit card will be when the newest iPad model launches in South Africa on 27 April 2012.

Apple revealed the South African launch date of the device on 16 April 2012, along with that of eight other countries.

The Apple iPad makes up over half of the South African tablet market, according to Arthur Goldstuck, MD of research firm World Wide Worx.

This new iPad is the third generation in Apple’s popular tablet PC range and promises a number of improvements over the older model, chief among which is the high resolution “Retina” display.

Previous models of the iPad came in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G versions, but the iPad 3 adds support for LTE networks in the US. Models with support for mobile broadband are marketed as Wi-Fi + 4G internationally, and this seems to be the case in South Africa as well.

I just thought I would let you all know that iPhoneZA featured in the UK Tap! Magazine Feb 2012 Issue, available in stores, where they highlighted our IconSettings tweak.

Unfortunately since then, iOS 5.1 has blocked the foundation upon which IconSettings worked on, but we are trying to come up with alternatives in the meantime.

    Pics are attached below!

After receiving a number of tip-off's suggesting an end of April/beginning of May SA launch for the iPad 3, we finally have an official word from Apple on a local launch date for the iPad 3 in South Africa.

The iPad 3 will be launched in South Africa on 27 April 2012.

This comes only less than a month and two weeks after the March 16th 2012 USA iPad 3 release date.

CUPERTINO, California―April 16, 2012―Apple® today announced the new iPad®, the third generation of its category defining mobile device, will arrive in South Korea and 11 additional countries on Friday, April 20. The new iPad features a stunning new Retina™ display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a 5 megapixel iSight® camera with advanced optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video. The new iPad still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life* while remaining amazingly thin and light.

In addition to South Korea, the new iPad also will be available beginning on Friday, April 20 in Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela. Beginning on Friday, April 27, the new iPad will be available in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand.

The new iPad Wi-Fi models will be available in black or white for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model and $699 (US) for the 64GB model. The iPad Wi-Fi + 4G models will be available for a suggested retail price of $629 (US) for the 16GB model, $729 (US) for the 32GB model and $829 (US) for the 64GB model.** The new iPad will be sold through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com) and select Apple Authorized Resellers. Additionally, iPad 2 is available at a more affordable price starting at just $399.
    No 4G LTE For SA?

The following was also noted in the press release:

**4G LTE is supported only on AT&T and Verizon networks in the U.S. and on Bell, Rogers and Telus networks in Canada. Data plans sold separately.
As we suspected, it does not look like our local carriers will support "4G LTE" for the iPad 3.

    Pricing?

We have received no word on pricing, however we suspect pricing will closely resemble that of iPad 2 launch pricing, perhaps a little higher if anything to compensate for the exchange rate.

To refresh your memory, here are the old local iPad 2 launch prices:
